Shamanic healing has been practiced by cultures all around the world for thousands of years in various forms. It recognizes the sacredness and aliveness of all life on this planet, and offers a way of communicating with the natural and spirit realms in order to receive wisdom, guidance, healing, and reconnection. It can facilitate recovering last parts of the self, releasing energy that no longer serves, and reconnecting someone with their own inner knowing and life force energy to name a few.
Shamanism is not a religion, but a healing tradition that formed the basis of care and support in indigenous cultures for over 60,000 years. Everything is imbued with spirit, and when we work with spirit (or life force energy), we can facilitate profound transformation and healing for individuals, communities, and cultures. As a present-day practice, shamanic healing meets the practical needs for working with the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of modern life.
Shamanic healing isn't about fixing what's broken, it is about remembering and reclaiming what is already whole. It complements, rather than replaces, conventional medical or psychological care, and works alongside it to support healing on every level: mind, body, and spirit.

A shamanic healing practitioner is someone who has been called to the path of healing and teaching by the powerful realm of Spirit. They work in relationship with the Otherworld (the spirit realm) to bring about change and transformation. A shamanic practitioner will often use a drum or rattle to enter an altered state of consciousness which allows them to travel to the Otherworld to receive guidance, wisdom, and healing.
Some of the shamanic arts that they might facilitate include; recovering lost parts of self, restoring personal power that we have lost or given away, compassionately releasing foreign energy that we carry, helping the deceased to cross over into the afterlife, releasing the habits that have been passed down through family/ancestors, clearing foreign energy from land and buildings, establishing a reciprocal relationship with the spirits of the land, and reconnecting with the inherent joy of our very truest nature to name a few.
* Important to note: I do not call myself a “shaman,” but rather a shamanic practitioner who practices the shamanic healing arts. The term “shaman” is reserved for someone that has been given this title/honorific directly by their community, and it often has specific cultural significances depending on the community they practice in.
