Personal Code of Ethics for Shamanic Practice
The following values embody my ethics as a shamanic practitioner, which is informed by my background in psychology, healthcare, and shamanic training. This Code of Ethics will be treated as a living document which will be edited and changed over time, as needed. It reflects the current state of my practice, myself, and the context in which healing is provided.
Beneficence
This practice is life affirming.
All efforts will be made to prevent and minimize harm to clients, the spirit realm, and to the natural world. When differing morals/ethics are conflicting, I commit to returning to the principle of “Do no harm” above all else.
I am committed to empowering my clients to discover what is in their best interest, as defined by them, and to uphold their best interest in my practice.
I commit to maintaining a trauma-informed practice that is survivor friendly and promotes quality of life wherever possible.
Consent and Sovereignty
I acknowledge each person’s right to sovereignty and self-determination through honoring their decisions, expressed needs, and requests. I also acknowledge the right to sovereignty of the Helping Spirits and will honor their decisions, needs, and requests.
I commit to obtaining informed consent prior to providing a shamanic healing service. Informed consent will be considered ongoing, meaning that it will be discussed throughout a session when necessary, and clients can revoke their consent at any time. Should a client revoke their consent mid-session, I will make every effort to safely close out the session with the guidance of the Helping Spirits.
All efforts will be made to provide clients with the necessary information needed to make informed choices about their healing session.
Confidentiality
I commit to maintaining the highest level of confidentially in my practice.
Commitment to Non-discrimination and Human Rights
I acknowledge and commitment to the principles of human rights, dignity, social justice, Diversity/Equity/Inclusion (DEI), and non-discrimination in all aspects of my shamanic practice.
All will be treated with the utmost dignity, respect, and reverence.
I commit to a lifelong journey of education and will make every effort to avoid cultural appropriation, colonial systems of harm, and spiritual bypassing.
I commit to a lifelong journey of understanding my lineage, cultural influences, and biases that I hold as a practitioner.
